♫ RPM 2012

2012 was the second year Doug Sisko and I (otherwise known as Crisko) undertook the RPM Challenge of recording an entire album during the month of February — and it was every bit as grueling but awesome as 2011. My recording “studio” averages around 50-55 degrees, as my little space heaters fight a losing battle with the Maine winter, so any fleet-fingered shredding is kept to a minimum (not a bad thing). Once again, I wrote all my lyrics at the last minute (mostly in front of an episode of The Bachelor – see “Cream Cheese”, “When I Was a Stud”, and “Pick Your Poison”) and stayed up til 4am on the last night of month singing all my songs. To commemorate the 20th (!) anniversary of the formation of my high school grunge band, Furnace (and to, er, compensate for the fact I didn’t write much music this year), I recorded two of our early 90s staples: “French Rock Is Really Cool” and “To Go or Not to Go” (written by our drummer and my old friend, Dan Connolly).

♫ Ruby Funny Face

Another song I did for RPM 2011. Thanks to my, uh, sleep-challenged baby daughter, songwriting wasn’t high on my list of priorities in 2009-10. I wrote exactly two songs, in fact: this one and one called Bouncing, Bouncing Baby that I would sing when, you guessed it, bouncing baby.

I always dreamed of writing songs for my offspring; however, it’s really hard to pull it off without ending up with something that’s nausea-inducing or just plain boring. So I was happy with how this turned out. It’s sweet without being too much — and more importantly, it’s short (because, really, no-one wants the musical equivalent of 100 baby pictures in a row).

♫ Everything You Ever Wanted

Probably my favorite song on the album I did with Doug Sisko for RPM 2011. I remember humming this riff in 2007, back in MA, when I was doing dishes; but I didn’t finish the song until I started recording in February 2011.

Like every other annoying web guy with a Macbook, I play music on the side.

But don't worry — I'm not going to ask you to come see my band, because these days there is no band. However, I'm hoping that tacking this section onto my website will shame me into writing and recording a bit more often.

Through the past, darkly

I know, right? Flash sucks, but so does a great deal of my music — so if you dare, click the big bubbly button below, and you will be “rewarded” with a random selection from my musical past.

No Flash, brah
